Filming

We were scheduled to film yesterday however our actress, Belle couldn't make it due to school commitments, we fear this will happen more often as the reality of her being at a boarding school could make it difficult to film fit to our schedule. So far we have done around three quarters of our orginal idea of filming, of which we are very pleased with and have started editing, we have a few gaps that we need to fill in however due to our protagonist female being at a boarding school, we are only able to film on the weekends. The footage we have of Belle could fit to a previous idea we had of having 3 women going through different problems in life, we thought Belle could be the grieving wife, from the footage we have this already shows this. Another girl will be an alcoholic, and the other a women who has many sexual parteners, for these other two characters we are going to use myself and my partner Sarah as we have free time and it makes sense to be able to use each other whenever so overall it works out easier. We will start filming in the next couple of days.

Setting

For the location of the film trailer, ideally it would be in a romantic setting such as London or Paris, however we had to think about where would be easiest and the realistic for us to get to easily. We thought filming in Bath would be appropriate as it is a beautiful city and could be seen as quite romantic. After thinking about the filming schedule, we were planning to do some of the filming during the week, therefore it will prove to be difficult to travel to Bath and back often. This is mind, we are now going to film the Marlborough town, which will involve a park, the town-including Christmas lights and window displays, a coffee shop (need to decide which one, maybe Costa) and my house for the other shots needed. Marlborough is a old, fairly big town in Wiltshire, with the lights up it will look romantic therefore the right sort of setting for the genre of the trailer. We will take location shots to show the specific places we are filming in.

Ideal Music

I think in order for the film to be successful, it depends greatly on the music we use/make on Garageband software. To fit to the Romatic Drama genre, the music should be soft and emotional, instruments such as piano and acoustic guitar, creating the right mood for the trailer. Music will play throughout the trailer, some parts will be very quiet, such as in the beginning of the trailer when the protagonist's voiceover speaks over the shots of the married couple. An example of when the music gradually gets louder will be when we see the woman walking through the Christmas decorated town, the loudest it will be is when the shot goes to a point of view shop in the town. We plan to create the music after we have done the film editing, it will most likely take about 2-3 days to get it correct and onto the film trailer.

Treatment

We are making a film trailer, which will be around 1-2 minutes long. The chosen genre is a romantic drama.
The story follows the life of the female protagonist, (unnamed at the moment). We see her in a couple of happily married shots of the two walking together and other typical couple situations, these will be the first shots and will be in slight slow motion with a voiceover. The voiceover will be the woman speaking, starting off with a famous love poem going on to her own speech, the audience will then realise that this is her talking at her husband’s funeral. It is autumn, a leaf then falls down from a tree which symbolises the end of his life, and this is a main part of the trailer as we did not want to film a funeral as it would be very difficult to gather enough people to fill the church. We also think this idea is subtler and more effective/emotional. The woman walks through her home town, which is decorated with Christmas lights and window displays, showing how time has moved on. She is surrounded by happy families and couples who seem to her to be moving in fast motion, this symbolises that her world is moving in slow motion when everyone else is speeding by. Then moving to a point of view shot from her eyes, she looks into the Christmas window displays whilst the moving soft music gradually gets louder. The woman then bumps into an old friend a couple of times and we see the protagonist become happy again. Summer then comes round and this is shown by a flower growing which also symbolises her happiness growing.

After VoxPop

After filming our VoxPop,  we were shown lots of ideas that were expected of a romatic film trailer, we are going to take note of these and try to include them in our trailer. This will make the film trailer look more professional, which is a postitive. We trust what the people in our voxpop as even though we asked a variety of people, we found them all to be correct with their answers, we think it would be beneficial to take advice from the public/audience as that is where our trailer would go, therefore it is best to go with what they want to see.

One thought raised was that the trailer should be romantic and perhaps easy-going. This would mean making a light hearted trailer that would be easy to watch, we think this is achievable, although our chosen genre is meant to be quite difficult, or not as easy as say, a thriller film, we want to and will make sure that we do the best we can.
Music is another crucial aspect for our film trailer to be a success, the music represents the pace of the trailer, and also sets the mood. we are thinking of doing a voxpop specific for the music to a romatic film. This would be beneficial as although we have an idea of what sort of music would be obvious to use, e.g soft piano, we could be presented with a variety of choices from the audience that we ask.

Picture Mood Board

A photo mood board of our trailer, including photos that we fit to be relevant to the happenings in the trailer we are making. Such as a main shot, of the leaf falling from the tree, this symbolises the death of the woman's husband.

Animatic

This is the animatic that we made, it is a storyboard of our film trailer. This shows a basic outline of what we aim to achieve in our film trailer, showing some effects on certain shots and certain aspects that a trailer must have, such as the BBFC rate card. We have also said which shots we intend on using. Although this is the outline of our film trailer, we expect to make some changes/imporvement along the way in order to create the most successful outcome.

We have decided to add in another couple of shots into the trailer. They are both in the town centre (Marlborough) with a Christmas setting, lights in the high street and window displays in the shops. One of the shots will be of the female walking through the town, she will be walking slowly whilst the happy families and couples will be walking fast, we will do this by the female character barely moving and people walking normally, when we edit this section we will put it into a fast motion, looking like her world is moving slowly and everything around her is working. The other shot will be from her point of view in the high street, she will be looking into the shop windows, there will be soft, emotional music playing over the top, and the diegetic sound will be quietened slightly to focus on the music.

Casting

For the characters we want an attractive, naturally pretty female and an attractive male to act as her husband. The second man should also be attractive, this is common in romantic films as it draws in viewers and perhaps seems more realistic, a lot of well known actresses/actors are attractive therefore we will mimic this to make our film trailer look real.

New Treatment for the PRACTICE ADVERT

Yummy mummies and water

We have decided to change the product as well as the storyline for our product due to difficulties with casting. So now we have chosen to change the product to water  but kept Yummy Mummies as our target audience and simplified the contents of our advert. Our advert will start with a Mum rushing around tidying up, picking up toys. She then stops and rubs her head showing she has a headache, which is shown through a close up of her face. The door bell then rings and when going to answer the door the woman trips over a toy which will show a hectic lifestyle. The shot will then cut to the two friends chatting and having coffee at the table. The mum reaches for a pot of ‘Activia’ yoghurt, at the same time her friend pushes it away and says something along the lines of “Oh no, don’t use that to revitalise, use this!” and replaces it with a new brand of bottled water.

PRACTICE ADVERT Treatment - 'The Solution'

For our advert we have decided to advertise a perfume designed to improve the confidence of mums and transform their motherly looks into glamorous 'yummy mummies'. In the first half of the advert, the screen will be divided into two. With one side having a mum holding her child, who will be spilling a drink down her front, whilst his mother is having a stressful conversation on the phone, this will contrast with the other vertical split creen which will show a glamorous woman being pampered. She then sprays the perfume across the screen to the mother struggling, transforming the mother into a yummy mummy. This will be shown by the split screen then dissolving into the next shot which will be one woman managing her child (who is well behaved and clean) looking elegant. The final shot will blur to a white screen and the product name will appear on the screen in large, feminine writing. Our perfume will be a feminine shape, meaning a curvy bottle, getting the message across that curves are attractive. The bottle colour will be white with purple parts on, the writing will be metallic purple so that it stands out on a shelf with other perfumes.
